AnMed Health Worker Wins $10,000 Playing the Lottery
5/4/2012 8:50:24 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (May 4, 2012) – In line at the Publix on E. Greenville St. in Anderson, Brenda Buchanan ran into a woman she knew from high school who was cashing in winning lottery tickets. Buchanan hadn’t bought a lottery ticket in 20 years and decided to try her luck.

She spent $1 on a ticket and won $10,000.

“I must have looked like a deer in the headlights,” the winner, who works for AnMed Health Homecare, said.

Shoppers in Publix kept coming up to congratulate her, and she even posed for a picture with the Junior Jumbo Bucks ticket at the store’s request. Before leaving the parking lot, she called her husband and daughter. Her family ordered her home and told her to drive carefully.

With her winnings, Buchanan bought a car, a 2008 Chevrolet HHR.

“Everyone loves the car and says it’s so me,” she said. Her husband had the transmission in his van fixed.

“I don’t think I’ll wait 20 years before I play again,” she added.

As of this release, eight top prizes of $10,000 remain in the $1 Junior Jumbo Bucks game.

The odds of winning $10,000 are 1 in 750,000.

Publix Super Market #360 received a commission of $100 for selling the claimed ticket.
