South Carolina Education Lottery’s “Play Responsibly” Message is Personal
3/1/2012 2:35:58 PM

Columbia, SC (March 1, 2012)- In recognition of “Play Responsibly Month” and “National Problem Gambling Awareness Week,” the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) is asking this question: What does “Play Responsibly” mean to you?

Answering how much lottery play is too much is an incredibly personal decision. Answers should reflect the entertainment nature of the games. If responses are something other than “for fun” then problem gambling could be an issue. To view a video of healthy responses from players, visit PlayResponsiblySC.com.

SCEL is united with the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) to educate the public about the primary resource for assistance in the state, the S.C. Gambling Helpline. The toll-free helpline, 1-877-452-5155, connects problem gamblers or anyone affected by gambling to a trained counselor, at any time of day and any day of the week. Call for information on problem gambling or referrals to begin the treatment process. Resources are also posted on the Education Lottery’s Play Responsibly website, PlayResponsbilySC.com.

A total of $2.55 million in lottery funds have been appropriated to DAODAS for the treatment of problem gambling since 2002. Treatment is effective and confidential, please seek help if you, or someone you know, need it.

National Problem Gambling Awareness Week is March 4-10, 2012, with March traditionally being recognized by the Lottery as Play Responsibly Month.
