$2 MILLION is the Truth
2/28/2012 8:24:04 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 28, 2012) – A Fort Mill man handed his wife a winning Powerball® ticket, and the words “$2 MILLION” did the rest.

“I thought I was going to be a widow,” he said describing the look on her face.

“Mom was speechless for the first time in her life,” laughed their daughter.

When she finally spoke, she called her husband a liar, but didn’t give the ticket back.

He wasn’t pulling her leg.

His Powerball® ticket for the Wednesday, February 22 drawing matched the first five numbers drawn (7, 16, 17, 39, and 51 PB: 32). The extra $1 spent for PowerPlay® increased his would be $1 million prize to $2 million.

He called his brothers to tell them the news. They called him worse than a liar.

Nothing was going to spoil this newly minted millionaires moment. He told lottery officials the last time he was this excited was about 10 years ago, the day he retired.

“We’ve always had zeroes in our account, but nothing in front of them,” he said.

How does seven figures feel?

“Unreal,” he said.

The odds of winning $2 MILLION playing Powerball® are 1 in 5,153,633.

Tri An Mart in Fort Mill received a commission of $20,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
