Columbia Man Celebrates Birthday with $300,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (February 20, 2012) – A Columbia man’s birthday is tomorrow, and it’s going to be a good one. Last week he won $300,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery’s Palmetto Cash 5 game.

He’s gifted himself a new truck and the title to his house.

The winner told lottery officials he was sitting at home checking several tickets, throwing them into the trash as he went. He got down to his last ticket.

“Let me check this losing ticket too,” he said.

Lucky for him he was wrong.

When he realized his ticket matched all five Palmetto Cash 5 numbers drawn on Valentine’s Day (13, 14, 23, 29, and 30) he went looking for his wife to give her a hug.

“Finally,” he said. After 10 years of playing he knew what it felt like to win big.

Spending the extra $1 for Power-Up tripled his $100,000 winnings to $300,000 when a “3” was drawn.
The odds of winning $300,000 are 1 in 1,606,214.

Mini Mart Express LLC in Columbia received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
