He’s Done It Again, North Augusta Man Wins Another $200,000

COLUMBIA, SC (July 26, 2011) – A North Augusta man feels he’s beat the odds, not once, but twice.

For the second time in less than a year, he’s won $200,000 off a Palmetto Cash 5 lottery ticket.

It’s not luck.

“I’m as unlucky as they come,” he said. “When I go fishing I don’t catch a thing.”

He’s credits consistency.

Every week he buys a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket for that week’s drawings, usually from the Gas Plus #5 at 403 Georgia Ave. in North Augusta.

He was visiting his son when he checked Saturday’s Palmetto Cash 5 results. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, five numbers (18, 20, 22, 24, and 29) matched his ticket once more.

His son was on the phone when he went to tell him the news, so he held up his hand for a high five and hand signed the numbers 2-0-0-0-0-0. His son hung up the phone.

The winner called his wife and told her he had good news and bad news.

“The bad news is I have to pay the government $64,000,” he said. “The good news is I won the lottery for $200,000 again.”

The first $200,000 win back in October paid off his house and car. He’s thinking his recent prize money will go toward purchasing a vacation home for his family and spoiling his grandchildren.

The odds of winning the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Both times the winner paid the extra $1 for Power-Up which multiplied his $100,000 Palmetto Cash 5 winnings to $200,000.

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Gas Plus #5 received yet another $2,000.
