Greenwood Man Kept a $200,000 Secret from Wife

COLUMBIA, SC (July 21, 2011) – A Greenwood man won $200,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery and didn’t tell anyone—not even his wife.

“I’m going to tell her,” the winner said. “I want to make sure it’s real first.”

He plans to surprise his wife, not with the check, but with paid bills.

She’s sure to have questions, among them how he won.

He scratched the $200,000 Cash instant ticket alone in his car at a stop light. What he saw had him reaching for his glasses.

“I was jumping up and down on the inside,” he said.

Even a night in the dog house won’t erase his smile.

As of this release, three top prizes of $200,000 remain in the ten dollar $200,000 Cash game.

The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 411,428.57

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Hickory Point #42 in Greenwood received $2,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been appropriated to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
