COLUMBIA, SC (June 13, 2011) – When the Lottery started, Calvin Bonham’s picture made the Aiken paper. You see, he bought a scratch-off ticket and won $2. He made news again today. This time he scratched and won $1 MILLION.

“I couldn’t breathe. I was so hyper,” said Bonham describing the $1 million revelation. “This is a dream come true.”

He scratched the Carolina Millionaires Club ticket this morning. He ran screaming to his wife to get up, “I’ve just won $1 million.”

She told him to calm down.

So he called his mom, who burst into tears at the news.

Bonham has done a little crying of his own.

He is overcome with emotion. While his wife was ironing a shirt to wear to Columbia to cash in the ticket, he was pacing the floor wide-eyed and red-eyed.

“This shows if you do good things, it will come back to you,” said the choked up millionaire.

The $10 Carolina Millionaires Club instant ticket went on sale January 4. The Aiken man is the last in a string of five $1 million winners.

The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 1,200,000.

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Ridgecrest Quick Shop in Aiken. received $10,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been appropriated to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
