Gaffney Family Vacations with $300,000 Lottery Ticket
6/3/2011 8:36:38 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (June 3, 2011) – A Gaffney man won $300,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery and left on vacation.

He packed the ticket.

The winner told lottery officials he checked his Palmetto Cash 5 numbers (1, 27, 29, 35, and 38) on his cell phone following Friday night’s drawing and matched all five. With his family’s Memorial Day weekend plans already set, he took the ticket with them.

“It was a great weekend knowing we were free of debt,” the winner said. “I kept the ticket close.”

He cashed in the ticket on Tuesday.

“I played the ticket for two days,” he shared. “I’m glad I did, because I won on the second day.”

Like Powerball® and Mega Millions® tickets, Palmetto Cash 5 can be purchased for future drawings like this winner did.

He also spent the extra $1 for Power-Up. The Power-Up number drawn was a “3,” which tripled his $100,000 winnings to $300,000.

The odds of winning the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Sam’s Mini Mart in Cowpens received $3,000.
