Charleston Resident Wakes Up to $100,000 Lottery Win
3/31/2011 10:12:22 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (March 31, 2011) – A Charleston woman awoke to good news.

“My husband looked in the paper and saw the winning Palmetto Cash 5 numbers. He ran into the bedroom and woke me up to tell me we won,” she said

She told lottery officials she needed her morning cup of coffee after hearing she won $100,000.

“I’m just so excited and happy,” she said.

Her winning numbers for the Monday, March 21 drawing were a combination of family birth dates and anniversaries (11, 19, 21, 23, and 33 Power-Up: 2). Had she paid the extra $1 for Power-Up, her $100,000 winnings would have been multiplied by “2” to $200,000.

The winner did not want to be named, but shared she stored the ticket in a safety deposit box until she could travel to Columbia to claim the prize. The winnings will pay for her son’s college tuition.

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Sunoco Coop #2662 in Ladson received $1,000.

The odds of winning the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.
