Mega Millions® Jackpot Reaches $304 MILLION
3/23/2011 1:47:45 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (March 23, 2011) – The Mega Millions® jackpot has rolled to an estimated $304 MILLION for Friday night’s drawing.

“This is an exciting time for the Lottery and its players,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea. “I know I will be watching the drawing Friday night with my fingers crossed hoping a South Carolina player will take home this unbelievable prize.”

The current jackpot run is chasing history. The $304 million jackpot is the second highest advertised since the Lottery began offering Mega Millions® over a year ago. Mega Millions® has posted two impressive jackpot runs this year alone. In January, the jackpot climbed to $380 million.

“Ticket sales continue to be brisk in South Carolina,” said Bethea. “Since the Mega Millions® jackpot run started, the Lottery has had two winning tickets worth $250,000, one sold in Goose Creek and one in Beech Island.”

South Carolina players wanting to take a chance on Friday night’s drawing must purchase their Mega Millions® tickets by 10 p.m. for the 11 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $1 and are available at lottery retailers statewide. Players can purchase Megaplier® for an additional $1 to multiply non-jackpot winnings by the Megaplier® number selected.

Players asking for a Mega Millions® ticket may notice the advertised Powerball® jackpot isn’t too shabby either. The estimated Powerball® jackpot for tonight is $101 million.

“Mega Millions® is certainly the headliner at $304 million, but Powerball® is up there too,” said Bethea. “We want to encourage players to please play responsibly.”

The odds of winning the Mega Millions® jackpot are 1 in 175,711,536, slightly better than the 1 in 195,249,054 odds of winning the jackpot with Powerball®.
