Conway Woman Rushes to Claim $200,000 Palmetto Cash 5 Ticket
3/8/2011 9:31:10 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (March 8, 2011) – A Conway woman refused to smile for the camera with her winning lottery ticket. She wasn’t shy. She didn’t want anyone to see how she looked.

“I wanted to change clothes, but my son wouldn’t let me change clothes or brush my hair,” she told lottery officials in Columbia. “He just kept yelling ‘Let’s go! Let’s go!’”

Early in the morning, she checked her Palmetto Cash 5 ticket and told her son she won $200,000.

His response, “Oh please, look at the date on the ticket before we embarrass ourselves.”

Sure enough the ticket matched all five numbers drawn in the Thursday, March 3, Palmetto Cash 5 drawing (10, 21, 24, 26 and 37). The winner did not want her name printed but purchased Power-Up for an additional $1, and saw her $100,000 winnings multiplied by “2” to $200,000.

Her son was convinced and ushered her out the door and into the car. Throughout the three-hour drive he sang, “You are a winner! How does it feel?”

“It feels great to have money fall out of the sky,” she said with a grin and touch of her hair.

For selling the claimed ticket, Rivertown Depot in Conway received $2,000, a 1 percent retailer commission.
