For a Columbia Man, a Lottery Ticket Made for a Great Gift
2/24/2011 9:10:03 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 24, 2011) – A Columbia man will agree, lottery tickets make great gifts. The man’s niece gave him a $5 Bass Pro Shops® instant ticket. When he scratched it, he couldn’t believe what he saw, his niece couldn’t either. He won $100,000.

“I never, ever expected to win that much,” the winner said. “It was a miracle I was given that ticket.”

And yes, the winner plans to share the winnings with the gift giver. He is getting his niece a car.

“He’s a good uncle,” the niece confessed.

The winner, who did not want to release his name, shared that members of his family are recovering from some health problems, and this money will help them get back on their feet.

“I’m lucky,” he said. “I was blessed with this ticket and a close family to share this with.”

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Menswear and Accessories in Columbia received $1,000.

As of this release, two top prizes of $100,000 remain in the Bass Pro Shops® instant game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 520,000.

Players can enter their non-winning Bass Pro Shops® tickets online or by mail for a chance to win an Adventure Trip of a Lifetime or a $500 Bass Pro Shops® Gift Card. Visit sceducationlottery.com for complete details.

This Saturday and Sunday, the South Carolina Education Lottery will be selling tickets and holding a promotion at the Bass Pro Shops® location in Myrtle Beach from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. While at the event lottery players can also enjoy savings on outdoor gear as well as free seminars, promotions and kids’ activities as part of the 2011 Spring Fishing Classic.
