Charlotte, NC, Couple in No Hurry to Claim $200,000 Powerball® Prize
2/16/2011 10:16:03 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 16, 2011) – A Charlotte, NC, couple spent 45 days sitting on a Powerball® ticket worth $200,000. Why the wait?

“We were waiting for the right day,” the winners told lottery officials.

Yesterday was that day.

The couple, who did not want to release their names, claimed the prize at the Columbia Claims Center. The ticket matched all five white ball numbers, but missed the red Powerball® number for the January 1, 2011 drawing (18 - 22 - 37 - 47 - 54 PB: 36). Had the winners purchased the PowerPlay® multiplier for an additional $1, their $200,000 winnings would have been multiplied to $1 million.

The couple has no regrets.

“The ticket was absolutely worth the $1 I spent on it,” she said. “I’m buying another Powerball® ticket today.”

For selling the winning ticket, Corner Store in Rock Hill received $2,000. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000.
