Bluffton Woman Comes Home to $250,000 Mega Millions® Prize
12/8/2010 8:58:10 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (December 8, 2010) – Away on business, a Bluffton woman received an urgent call from home. Her husband instructed her to sit down and then he broke the news: “You won $250,000.”

She was speechless.

When she got home she checked the ticket, and sure enough the first five numbers listed (6, 11, 12, 18, and 56 MB: 12) matched Friday’s Mega Millions® results. The ticket was a $250,000 winner. Had she matched the Megaball® the jackpot would have been hers.

“Unbelievable,” she told lottery officials. “I haven’t slept and my husband hasn’t slept either.”

The winner did not want to release her name but has shared the news with close family. She remarked that this Christmas, that appeared would be a frugal one, will now be a celebration.

“I feel more than grateful,” she said.

Had the winner spent the extra $1 for the Megaplier®, her $250,000 winnings would have been multiplied to $1 million.

Maruti Food Mart Inc. in Hardeeville sold the winning ticket and received a check for $2,500. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000.
