Coffee Break Ends in $100,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (December 7, 2010) – A Coward resident usually feels safe leaving his car unlocked. The other night he locked the doors. He didn’t want to take any chances with a ticket worth $100,000 inside the glove box.

“My knees about buckled,” the winner said describing his emotions when he won.

The construction worker was sipping coffee at Coward Truck Stop when he purchased a $5 Winter Bucks ticket. What he found scratching away at a snowflake on the reindeer ticket took him by surprise. The $5 ticket was good for $100,000.

“It was a heck of a trade,” he said.

And just in time. With a Christmas wish list from the kids naming a car and a four wheeler, he was hoping for a miracle. Now the father of three can relax.

“This is awesome,” he told lottery officials. “We will have a nice Christmas for sure.”

Winter Bucks is one of four holiday instant tickets from the South Carolina Education Lottery. As of this release, three prizes of $100,000 remain in the Winter Bucks game.

Coward Truck Stop in Coward benefited from selling the ticket. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. The retailer received $1,000.
