Columbia Vietnam Veteran Wins $300,000 Palmetto Cash 5 Prize
10/25/2010 1:36:50 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (October 25, 2010) A Columbia man is looking forward to a nap. The Vietnam Veteran realized Friday night his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket was a $300,000 winner, and he has been wide eyed and restless ever since, waiting to make his claim on Monday.

"This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me," he said. "People tell me I'm a lucky fellow, and I believe them now."

The winner, who did not want to release his name, matched all five numbers drawn (2, 5, 24, 31, and 38) in the Friday, October 22, Palmetto Cash 5 drawing. He purchased Power-Up for an additional $1 to multiply his $100,000 winnings by "3" to $300,000. "Oh, am I ever so happy I did that," he admitted.

He promised his wife he wouldn't tell anyone about the money. But good news is worth sharing. Right? So, when he went to purchase another ticket he blurted out to the clerk he won $300,000. His wife forgave him and figures the clerk didn't believe him anyway.

Jimmy's Mart in Columbia sold the winning ticket. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. The retailer received $3,000.
