COLUMBIA, SC (October 27, 2009) – How does winning $1,000 a week for one year sound? It sounded like a good idea to Jerry McIntosh, so he purchased a Weekly Bonus instant ticket. That decision earned the Charlotte, NC, resident a $52,000 prize!
“I had just won $20 on a lottery ticket, so I used some of that money to buy the Weekly Bonus ticket,” McIntosh said. “I scratched it and saw I won $1,000, then looked closer and it said $1,000 a week for a year!”
The winner bought his lucky ticket at Cammy Express in Rock Hill. McIntosh said he plans to share his prize with his family. The 60-year-old is celebrating 39 years of marriage.
Weekly Bonus is a $2 ticket with approximately $1.4 million remaining in total prizes.
A retailer who sells a claimed ticket worth $10,000 or more receives a 1 percent selling bonus. Cammy Express received a $520 bonus.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2.2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2010. Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
