COLUMBIA, SC (May 20, 2009) – What would you do if you won $100,000? That’s what a Florence area man is thinking about! He just took home a $100,000 Palmetto Cash 5 top prize from the May 11 drawing.
The 38-year-old man doesn’t want to share his name, but he did tell lottery staff he has not decided what he’ll do with his winnings.
“I really don’t know. Maybe I’ll just save it,” the player said.
The winner did reveal his strategy for choosing his Palmetto Cash 5 numbers. His selections are based on the birth dates of his family, and he always uses the same combination.
“I’ve won a few dollars before, but this is the biggest prize so far!”
The player purchased his winning ticket at Save-Mart #3, 3205 E. Palmetto Street, in Florence.
His win marks the 14th Palmetto Cash 5 top prize of $100,000 or more claimed so far this year.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
