COLUMBIA, SC (May 6, 2009) – Call it a winning streak of incredible luck! In four days, three $200,000 Big Money instant ticket winners have come forward to claim their prizes and good fortune.
The first, a Sumter resident, who wishes not to reveal his name, is especially grateful to the clerk at the Parkway Shell in Sumter. The clerk mistakenly tore off a ticket other than the one the player asked for, but the Sumter resident decided not to say anything about the blunder. He scratched the ticket at the pump and immediately realized he won $200,000.
An Orangeburg resident admits he had a good feeling about the Big Money ticket he purchased at Chestnut Amoco #1000349 in Orangeburg. The man, who wishes not to be identified, said when his wife heard the news, her screams could be heard a mile down the road. The couple is planning to help their children and grandchildren.
A Sumter woman decided last Friday was “her day.” She bought and scratched a Big Money ticket from One Stop Shop in Sumter with a familiar result. Before locking the winning ticket worth $200,000 in her dresser drawer, she called her granddaughter to come over and celebrate. The family admits there was a lot of hugging and kissing as they gathered around the ticket.
Big Money is a $10 ticket from the South Carolina Education Lottery which launched in early April and has one top prize of $200,000 remaining.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
