COLUMBIA, SC (February 6, 2009) – Birthdays and a wedding anniversary proved to be the magical combination for a Spartanburg area woman when she picked her Palmetto Cash 5 numbers. That numerical recipe added up to a $500,000 win in the February 3 drawing!

The 48-year-old winner doesn’t want to reveal her name, but she did disclose details of her winning experience.

“I’ve been playing the same numbers for a while,” the player said. “I knew someday I would win.”

With a college bound son and a daughter in high school, the winner said the $500,000 prize will come in handy for tuition. “And we’ll be financially secure,” she added. “It’s a great feeling to be debt free!”

The lucky woman purchased her winning ticket at The Spinx Company, Inc. #140 in Greenville. The winning numbers in the February 3 Palmetto Cash 5 drawing were 4, 10, 12, 21, and 26. The Power-Up multiplier was 5. The player wisely paid an extra dollar to purchase the Power-Up multiplier option, which resulted in the $500,000 prize. The top prize in the Palmetto Cash 5 game is $100,000, but that prize can be multiplied up to five times, depending on the multiplier selected. Odds of winning a top prize in Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
