$200,000 Powerball® Winner Claims Prize!
11/26/2008 2:15:36 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (November 26, 2008) – How long would you wait to claim a $200,000 prize? One Charlotte, NC, man lingered with the decision of when to accept the Powerball® payday for two weeks! Asked what took him so long, the player told lottery officials he needed some time to consider his big win!
The lucky man, who doesn’t want to reveal his name, did admit he kept his ticket in a safe place. The only person he told was his father, who will benefit from his promise not to spread the exciting news. “This will be an exceptional holiday season! I plan to share the money with my family and put smiles on their faces,” the winner said.
The 34-year-old winner almost didn’t buy a Powerball® ticket for the November 8 drawing. “I was pumping gas at Carowinds Exxon Shop in Fort Mill, but I couldn’t pay with my card at the pump for some reason. I went inside the store and realized I had a one dollar bill in my pocket. I thought I might as well buy a quick pick Powerball® ticket.” This move paid off in a big way. The player matched all five white ball numbers (2, 4, 21, 36 and 40) but missed the red Powerball® (41).
Since inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the year that ended June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
