COLUMBIA, SC (October 7, 2008) – “Oh my gosh!” Those were the words a 36-year-old Sumter County resident kept repeating when she found out she was the $750,000 MegaMatch 6SM jackpot winner!
The lucky player, who doesn’t want to reveal her identity, collected her prize at the Lottery’s Columbia Claims Center. She didn’t realize she had the winning ticket until the day after the Tuesday, September 30 drawing.
“I was checking the Lottery’s website for past Powerball® numbers, and I remembered I had a MegaMatch 6SM ticket,” she said. “I checked my ticket and I couldn’t believe I had all six numbers (2, 7, 10, 15, 17, and 25) on the same row!”
The $750,000 jackpot will be used wisely, the winner said. She plans on helping out her mom, having a little fun and saving some of her prize.
The player admitted she feels pretty lucky. She said she’d been playing MegaMatch 6SM for only three weeks! She purchased the winning ticket at Youngs Food Stores #643 in Sumter.
Since inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the year that ended June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
