NO LOTTERY TICKET SALES ON ELECTION DAY JUNE 10

COLUMBIA, SC (June 2, 2008) – Attention Lottery players! Buy your tickets in advance of Election Day! On June 10, 2008, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) will be prohibited from selling lottery tickets.
This notice is in conjunction with the Education Lottery Act. Section 59-150-210(E) A lottery ticket or share must not be sold on the date of any general or primary election; for a lottery game other than that defined in Section 59-150-20(7); or for a lottery game with corporate sponsorship.
SCEL will also shut down its gaming system on June 10 to prevent any on-line sales of Pick 3, Pick 4, Palmetto Cash 5, MegaMatch 6 and Powerball® or instant ticket validations at Lottery retailers.
Pick 3, Pick 4, Palmetto Cash 5, and MegaMatch 6 drawings will take place as scheduled on June 10. The Education Lottery Act Section 59-150-210(E) does not prohibit the SCEL from conducting a draw on election days. Pick 3, Pick 4, Palmetto Cash 5, MegaMatch 6, and Powerball players can continue to play their numbers on Monday, June 9 until midnight.
Since its inception in 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery has launched more than 260 instant games and six online games. Currently, SCEL offers 39 instant games and five online games. SCEL produces an average of four new games each month in a variety of themes, play styles, and price points of $1-$10. During the past six years, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.74 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
